What Makes A Great Uke?

Uke a Japanese word for the person who "receives" a technique.

Your uke is your partner who helps you practice a move during techniques part of the class. They help you make the move work so you can learn it properly.

What Makes a Good Uke?

1) Being an uke is NOT about winning. It’s about helping your partner get the move right.

2) A great uke thinks like a coach: “what does my partner need me to do, to help them learn the move?”

3) A good uke NEVER fights and resists their partners technique. They give the right reaction so the move works.

4) They stay calm, patient, and in control of their own body. They stay still when needed and don’t go floppy.

5) They are never rough. Your partner should NEVER get hurt when practicing a technique.

A good uke IS NOT trying to win - they’re trying to make their partner look good.
